International Student Scholarships

Please note: the deadline for applications for 2017 entry has now passed. Check back here in October 2017 for details of our scholarships for 2018/19 entry.

There are up to 15 St Mary's International Student Scholarships available to new, full-time undergraduate and postgraduate taught degree students.

The scholarships are open to prospective full-time, on-campus students in any subject area.

You can apply for a St Mary's Scholarship award if you are an international student (Non-EU) and have an offer of a place on a degree programme at St Mary's University for 2017/18 entry.

In order to be considered you must submit:

  • A certified copy of your most recent qualification along with an official transcript from the institution it was awarded by.
  • A personal statement, no more than 500 words in length, outlining your study and career objectives and how you would contribute to St Mary's and its mission.

Scholarship applications will be considered holistically based on a your academic record, taking into account test scores, grades and any special academic achievements. You must also be able to demonstrate an outstanding personal profile as evidenced in your personal statement.

The Personal Statement forms an important part of the selection process. You should consider writing about your educational background; extracurricular activities; why you want to come to London; the impact that you've made in your community; what you will contribute to St Mary's University; and how this degree will benefit your future career.


Each scholarship is worth £3,000 off the cost of your first year tuition fee. These rewards are not renewable after the first year of study.

What happens next?

Once you have submitted the scholarship application you will receive a confirmation email.

If you have been successful we will notify you by Friday 2nd June 2017. The Scholarship award will then be automatically deducted from your first year's total tuition fee cost.

St Mary's University – GREAT Scholarships 2018 – China

study-uk-logoThis year, in partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, St Mary’s University will be offering four scholarships to Chinese students applying for postgraduate taught programmes in any subject.

In order to support more Chinese students to study in the UK, the British Council, together with 31 UK universities, has launched the GREAT Scholarships 2018 – China campaign. With 145 postgraduate scholarships on offer, the total value of the scholarship scheme is nearly £1 million.

This new scholarship scheme will offer an exciting opportunity for Chinese students wishing to get financial support to pursue postgraduate study in the UK. Students can apply for postgraduate courses in subjects including engineering, law, business, art and design, biosciences, IT and more, at 31 institutions across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Please note: applicants should be Chinese passport holders.

Each scholarship is worth £5,500 off the total cost of your tuition fee.

Selection criteria

Scholarships are awarded to the applicants with the highest academic achievement.

Application procedure

Eligible candidates will need to hold an offer at St. Mary’s University in order to apply for the scholarship.  As such, interested candidates are encouraged to make an application to St. Mary’s University for a full-time postgraduate course of study.

Santander Scholarship

St Mary’s University is a member of the Santander Universities network. One award of £5,000 will be available to a talented student starting a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course of study at St Mary’s University in September 2017.

The scholarship, which will take the form of a fee waiver, will be awarded on academic merit. Eligible candidates, in receipt of an offer from St Mary’s University, will be invited to apply for the scholarship. 

Eligibility requirements

Candidates must:

  • hold Brazilian citizenship
  • ordinarily be a resident in Brazil

Selection criteria

Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence.

Application procedure

Candidates will be invited to apply for the scholarship.

Eligible candidates will need to hold an offer at St. Mary’s University in order to be invited to apply for the scholarship.  As such, interested candidates are encouraged to make an application to St. Mary’s University for a full-time undergraduate or post graduate course of study.  Selected candidates will be sent a link to an online application.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship

This is a full scholarship for selected postgraduate taught courses. This scholarship is offered to one student per year, for one of the following postgraduate taught courses:

  • Bioethics and Medical Law
  • Charity Management
  • Migration, Organised Crime and Human Trafficking
  • Chronic Disease Management

All applicants for this scholarship will need to first apply for admission to St Mary’s  as a postgraduate student and then submit a separate electronic application for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship via the Commission’s Electronic Application System.

Higher Education Scholarships for Palestine (HESPAL)

The HESPAL Scholarship is a joint award offered by the British Council and St Mary's University, Twickenham to help junior academic staff in Palestinian universities achieve an English Master's degree in a subject that will benefit their home institution in the Palestinian Territories.
