Professor Francis Campbell, Vice-Chancellor of St Mary’s University, Twickenham, has announced that he is to step down from the role in the first quarter of 2020.
Professor Campbell, who was appointed in 2013, will leave the University to take up the role of Vice-Chancellor at The University of Notre Dame Australia.
Chair of St Mary’s University’s Board of Governors, Bishop Moth, said: “While we all wish Francis well for the future, it is with great regret that we see him leave.
“During his five years at St Mary’s, he has led the transformation of the University on numerous fronts, in line with our Vision 2025 strategy. Among the many achievements under his leadership, I would particularly highlight the historic gains in league table rankings, retaining Ofsted Outstanding and being awarded TEF Silver status. Francis’ leadership, alongside the work of all our St Mary’s colleagues, has helped place the University on a more sustainable foundation in this challenging higher education context.”
Vice-Chancellor Professor Francis Campbell said: “It has been a privilege and pleasure to work for St Mary’s over the last five years. St Mary’s is such a special community to be part of and the journey we have undertaken, at a time of significant change and flux in the sector with its challenges and opportunities, has been hugely encouraging. I have no doubt that St Mary’s will continue to develop and grow stronger and to raise its profile at home and abroad. There are so many outstanding examples of excellence and commitment across the University which will ensure St Mary’s continued development in the decades ahead.
“I want to thank the students, staff, governors, chancellor, alumni and all the stakeholders for the support and encouragement shown to me over the years. I will be forever grateful for the advice, support, work and kindness that so many people showed to me in so many different settings. Your outstanding commitment to St Mary’s has made this a truly wonderful personal and professional experience. There are still many things to do and I will continue to lead these efforts until I leave in 2020.”
The Board of Governors at St Mary’s will meet in due course to discuss details for the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor.
Professor Campbell’s tenure as Vice-Chancellor has seen the University rise to its highest position in the Sunday Times Good University Guide, rank amongst the top nationally and the highest in London for Student Satisfaction, achieve TEF Silver status and retain its Ofsted Outstanding rating.
