Extra costs to your degree - 2022/23

Some courses will have extra costs that support student completion. On this page, you'll find information on any additional costs to your degree commencing academic year 2022/23.

Placement year programmes

As a St Mary’s student paying fees, during your placement year you will still have access to services at the University. You will be able to access University systems e.g. Moodle and Library Services as usual and get support from other departments such as Student Services, if needed.

Textbooks

Many of the textbooks recommended for your programme of study will be available via the Simmons Library search option, either as a hard copy or online text. You are welcome to purchase your own copies for reference if you wish to do so. Module convenors will be able to advise on the most relevant texts delivered on the programme.

Student fees Policy

See our tuition fees regulations page for our student fees policy.

IT Specifications

The University provides a technical specification for you prior to arrival so that you can purchase appropriate hardware (laptop etc).

This is provided to ensure that student laptops are able to cope with the demands placed upon them during HE-level study.

Students who cannot afford a laptop can make use of either short-term or long-term loan from the laptop loan scheme.

Printing and photocopying costs

Coursework is usually submitted online via TurnItIn. However, there may be some pieces of work where a hardcopy of assessment is required.

International student visa application charge.

The cost of applying for a student visa is on the Gov.uk student visa page.

International student healthcare surcharge

You can find out about paying for UK healthcare on the Gov.uk immigration health surcharge page.

Software

On both sports journalism programmes, we recommend the students sign up for an Adobe software licence (£16 per month - student rate ).
