Biography

Alison is a lecturer in Primary Education for Modern Foreign Languages. She joined the Institute of Education’s primary education team at St Mary’s University in 2021 although her association with the University’s primary and secondary teams dates back to 2016. She lectures across the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Alison has a BA (Hons) in French and Spanish from UWE; an MA in technical translation from the University of Kent and an MA in Latin American and Caribbean studies from UCL. After graduating, she worked in the private sector in translation and language-related roles in Madrid, Florence and London before embarking on her PGCE Secondary in 2000 and finding her vocational home. She worked in two Surrey comprehensive schools as subject lead for Spanish for 13 years, working with students from Year 7 to Year 13.

Alison greatly enjoys working with the students in her core and Year 2 elective MFL groups and she gets huge satisfaction from seeing how - despite differing starting points and personal experiences of MFL - the practical and participative nature of the sessions mean all have a valuable contribution to make and grow in confidence.

Alison is a member of the Association for Language Learning.
