Biography
At St Mary's I am a module convenor for Health Economics, and I teach in many other modules. I am also working on developing research capacity in applied health economics at the University. I also supervise M.Sc. students.
I am a health economist trained in Brazil (B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Economics) and United Kingdom (PhD in Health Economics).
Research
Research profile
My research uses applied economic analysis, including epidemiological approaches, and a range of empirical methods, to understand disease burden, individual and providers decisions processes.
Before joining St Mary's University in 2022, I worked as an Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, from 2008 to 2019 (and from 2016 to 2025, as a Module Organiser, external) and as a Research Fellow at the Universidade Federal da Bahia, Instituto de Saude Coletiva, from 2000 to 2008.
I served as a senior advisor and consultant for the World Bank, technical officer and consultant for the World Health Organization, and, currently, as a consultant for the UN Environmental programme.
