Dr Anna-Maria Bielinska

About Research

Biography

Anna-Maria teaches within the School of Medicine, with a focus on clinical medicine and communication skills. She is a Lecturer in Medical Education and works primarily as a Clinical Teaching Fellow for medical undergraduates. She is also involved in curriculum development, with a particular focus on clinical communication skills within the School of Medicine.

She has a diverse clinical background and a strong interest in the interface between physical and mental health. Her experience includes working as a Specialist Registrar in Medical Oncology and as a Specialty Doctor in General Adult Psychiatry within the NHS in London. She has also worked as a Clinical Research Fellow at Imperial College London.

Anna-Maria graduated from the University of Oxford with both a Distinction in Clinical Medicine and a MA in Medical Sciences. She has passed the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians examinations and also holds a Master’s degree in Oncology from the Institute of Cancer Research.

Her PhD in clinical research, awarded by Imperial College London, focused on advance care planning in later life following emergency hospital admission. Her thesis used mixed methods and co-designed approaches, developed in partnership with patients, carers, and front-line NHS clinicians. This doctoral work was recognised by the National Institute for Health Research for highlighting the relevance of advance care planning discussions for older adults following emergency hospitalisation within the NHS.

She enjoys collaboration and interdisciplinary working.

Outside of work, Anna-Maria enjoys reading, cooking, and the arts.
