PhD

An assessment of the nutritional requirements of masters endurance athletes; informing the design of a tailored nutrition education intervention programme.

Edward’s PhD project focus is the nutritional requirements of masters (older) endurance athletes, with specific emphasis on cyclists, runners and triathletes.

The number of masters athletes has risen in recent years, with these individuals often displaying high-level physical performance. Although there are nutrition guidelines available for endurance athletes, as well as for the general population, they are not bespoke for masters athletes.

Edward’s research aims to investigate the nutritional requirements of masters endurance athletes and to understand their current nutrition habits and nutrition knowledge. The long-term objective of his project is to develop an evidence-based nutrition education intervention programme, specifically tailored to masters endurance athletes.
