Biography
JJ Nithyananthan is a Lecturer in Digital Production 1 and 2, as well as the Pastoral Tutor and Head of Level 4 BA (Hons) Filmmaking. In addition, JJ serves as a committee member for academic misconduct.
With over five years of dedicated experience across film, television, and commercials, JJ Nithyananthan has cultivated a 360-degree understanding of the industry. His career is uniquely defined by dual expertise in both production and post-production, enabling him to guide projects from the initial spark of an idea through to final delivery.
His commitment to excellence has been recognised by some of the industry’s most prestigious bodies. JJ is an award-winning producer, with work that has been named a finalist by the Royal Television Society (RTS) and the British Guild of Television Cameramen (GTC).
Beyond the screen, JJ is a passionate advocate for systemic change. He has authored multiple theses focusing on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) within the film and television industry, aiming to ensure that both the stories told and the teams behind them reflect the diversity of the world we live in.
Outside of the production office and edit suite, JJ Nithyananthan thrives on energy and connection. He strongly believes that the best ideas emerge from honesty and collaboration —principles he brings into every project.
JJ is an avid sports enthusiast; whether on the football pitch, cricket crease, or golf course, he enjoys the strategy and teamwork involved in each sport. When not playing sports or travelling to new destinations, he can often be found in the kitchen, pursuing a passion for cooking and baking while tackling complex recipes. To maintain balance, he begins most days with a morning run, which also serves as a time for reflection and creative thinking.
