Dean of Research at St Mary's University, Twickenham, Prof Karen Sanders is a former Professor in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Communication Sciences at CEU San Pablo University, where she also served as: Assistant Dean; Head of the Department of Advertising and Communication; and Assistant to the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research.

Karen obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Durham in English and Philosophy and obtained her MA and PhD in Communications from the University of Navarra in Spain and also holds the title of associate Professor at the IESE Business School. She was also a founding member of the Department of Journalism Studies at the University of Sheffield and was director of the MA in Political Communication.

Prior to academia, Karen began her career working in local newspapers and managing media and parliamentary relations for one of the UK's principal industry bodies in the City of London.
