Biography
Laura Tracey is a Senior Lecturer in Business and Accounting at St Mary’s University and a member of the Centre for the Art of Living and Dying Well’s Society, Culture and Living Well research group. She is a Chartered Accountant, having qualified with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in 2006, and is a member of the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) Accounting Education Special Interest Group. She has held academic leadership roles, including Head of Department, and is currently a Module Convenor for modules across all levels of undergraduate study.
Laura has taught accounting in higher education and professional training settings, including ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA and AAT qualifications. Her teaching and research interests include accounting education, academic and information literacy, innovative assessment, assessment co-creation and the development of students’ critical thinking and professional skills. She has collaborated with library colleagues on the co-creation of learning and assessment activities that develop students’ academic and information literacy. Her research also explores professional lives, risk management and living well, and includes collaborative work with colleagues across institutions and disciplines.
Alongside her academic work, Laura has worked in the charity sector and has developed professional expertise in the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) sector, including data analysis, advocacy, professional training and contributions to national policy frameworks. Her contribution to work in this area has been highly commended by the Vice-Chancellor.
