Matt is a Senior Lecturer within the Institute of Education, who specialises in lecturing in primary physical education. He teaches on the Physical Education master's programme. He has a BSc (Hons) in Physical Geography from the University of Sheffield and a PGCE and MA in Education from St Mary's. His MA research (Leading, Innovation and Change) studied the application of self-determination theory in supporting educators working in elite sport.
Matt has been a teacher and lecturer for over 10 years, working in a variety of settings including primary and secondary schools, universities and adult education. He continues to work in schools as well as writing for The Chartered College of Teaching.
Before his work in education, Matt worked in sports development - spending 5 years at Sports St Mary's where he oversaw the SIMMSport junior sports programme and contributed to the university's work around the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
