Biography

Dr Ruslan Posevkin is an experienced computer science educator, technical mentor, and software engineer with a strong background in software engineering and technical education. As a PhD holder in Computer Science, he effectively bridges the gap between complex industrial engineering and academic excellence. He currently serves as the Programme Director for the BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and is a Lecturer in Computer Science. Ruslan teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and supervises student research projects and dissertations.

With 15 years of industry experience, Ruslan has held key positions as an Engineering Team Lead and Software Engineer at various global tech organisations and rapidly growing SaaS companies. He has a distinguished track record of fostering talent in both traditional university settings and international EdTech platforms. Prior to joining St Mary's University, Ruslan served as an Associate Professor at ITMO University and as a Tutor for the University of London. He has also acted as a technical instructor and mentor for different online EdTech companies and boot camps.

As the Head of Mentoring at Yandex Practicum and TripleTen, Ruslan showcased his leadership in education by managing and expanding a team of over 40 technical mentors. He implemented structured onboarding and performance review systems, which led to a 22% increase in student retention rates. These initiatives also allowed the organisations to triple their mentoring capacity during a period of rapid growth.

Ruslan is an active contributor to the software development community, participating as a guest speaker and technical expert at roundtables and in industry publications. He also acts as a judge for hackathons, evaluating the technical innovation and architectural integrity of various software projects.

In addition to his academic role, Ruslan provides consulting and mentorship to tech companies and individual professionals.

Research profile

Ruslan has a solid research background and a proven track record in Natural Language Processing (NLP), sentiment analysis, and the development of natural language interfaces for databases (NLIDB). He is currently focused on researching the application of Agentic AI in the software engineering process.
