Our scholarships include a wide range of support services that enable athletes to successfully train, compete and study in a performance environment.   

With financial support and a comprehensive support service package, including strength & conditioning and rehabilitation services, the scholarship programme can be tailored to your needs.

The scholarships range from a value of £750 to £5,000 and are open to all St Mary’s students, regardless of year or programme of study.

Gold Scholarship

Value: £4,000 - £5,000

This scholarship package includes:

  • £2,000 - £3,000 financial support
  • Free gym membership
  • Strength and conditioning - individualised programme and support
  • Access to rehab and soft tissue services
  • Access to performance workshops in disciplines such as sports nutrition & psychology
  • Sport Scholar Kit
  • Dedicated lifestyle support from the Sport Performance Officer
Criteria

We are looking for student athletes who have the ability to compete at the Olympic or Paralympic Games, typically those that have already represented their country at senior international level.

We will also consider applications from student athletes in a non-Olympic sport, providing they compete at a comparable level and in a BUCS sport.

Please note: as with all St Mary’s scholarships, meeting the above minimum criteria does not guarantee the award of a scholarship.

Silver Scholarship

Value: £2,500 - £4,000

This scholarship package includes:

  • £500-£1,500 financial support
  • Free gym membership
  • Strength and conditioning - individualised programme and support
  • Access to rehab and soft tissue services
  • Professional coaching within the relevant club
  • Access to performance workshops in disciplines such as sports nutrition & psychology
  • Sport Scholar Kit
  • Dedicated lifestyle support from the Sport Performance Officer
Criteria

We are looking for student athletes who are typically competing at a minimum of junior national/international level or equivalent who are able to demonstrate how they can significantly contribute to success for St Mary’s in British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions.

Please note: athletes must be committed to, and eligible to represent St Mary’s in BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) competitions and events.

As with all St Mary’s scholarships, meeting the above minimum criteria does not guarantee the award of a scholarship.

*Please note that BUCS do not offer certain disciplines/events within this sport. For example flat-water races are not offered as part of any BUCS Canoe/Kayak competition.

Applicants within these sports should be aware that their favoured event may not be featured within BUCS competitions and as such they may not be eligible for this scholarship.


Bronze Scholarship

Value: £750

This scholarship package includes:

  • Free gym membership
  • Strength and conditioning support
  • Access to performance workshops in disciplines such as sports nutrition & psychology
  • Sport Scholar Kit
  • Dedicated lifestyle support from the Sport Performance Officer
Criteria

We are looking for student athletes who are either:

  • Currently competing at a minimum of county or regional level and be committed to competing in university competitions
  • Currently competing at a minimum of junior national level in a non-BUCS or non-Olympic sport

EPACC (endurance running) Scholarship

Benefits of the programme include:

  • Access to world-class coaching within one of the most successful endurance programmes in the UK
  • Priority access to athlete-dedicated accommodation
  • Fantastic local spaces to train, such as Bushy and Richmond Parks 
  • Access to the fitness suite
  • Strength and conditioning - individualised programme and support
  • Access to rehab and soft tissue services

Please note that there is no application process for this package and that all EPACC athletes will receive these benefits. Any endurance athletes applying for a scholarship will be considered for the Gold and Silver packages.


Men’s Rugby Union Scholarship

Through our partnership with Old Elthamians RFC, we are offering talented men’s rugby players the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to cover the full costs of tuition and accommodation fees, worth up to £50,000.

Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS)

TASS is a Sport England funded partnership between talented athletes, education institutions and national governing bodies of sport. The Scheme supports talented athletes in education – aged 16-plus – find and manage the balance between their sporting and academic careers, by providing them the access to additional support services such as Strength & Conditioning, Physiotherapy and Lifestyle. 

In 2018-19, more than 600 talented athletes from 32 different sports are benefitting from support services at one of 33 TASS Delivery Sites.  

St Mary’s University is proud to be one of the largest TASS Delivery Sites and the support that we have provided 28 TASS athletes at St Mary’s this year includes

  •  Lifestyle
  • Physiotherapy
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Personal development (nutrition, psychology, further lifestyle)
  • TASS Medical Scheme & BUPA Healthy Minds

New/Prospective Students

  • 31stMarch 2019 –  Deadline for 1st round of scholarship applications* 
  • 15thApril 2019 – Applicants notified of outcome and scholarship offers awarded to successful applicants
  • 17thSeptember 2019 – Scholarship induction date

Returning Students

  • 1stMay 2019 – Deadline to apply within the 1st round of scholarship applications for returning students 
  • 15thMay 2019 – Applicants notified of outcome and scholarship offers awarded to successful applicants 
  • 17thSeptember 2019 – Scholarship induction date

*Any applications submitted after this date may be considered once the 1st round of scholarship applications has been completed, should any funding still be available.
