I took part in the work placement module in my second year as well as my final year. The module allowed me to gain practical experience whilst applying my academic learning to the working world and has been paramount to my personal and professional development. It has also led to me being employed straight after completing my degree.
I thoroughly enjoyed my placements as well as the Centre for Workplace Learning (CWL) lectures where open discussion and practical demonstrations were encouraged. The dynamic approach to teaching kept me motivated throughout and was also the basis for why I chose to continue with the module in my final year. The CWL learning team have a great network of different businesses in different sectors and will help with everything from CV writing to how to approach a company.
If you are unsure about what you want to do for a career or if you want to develop your professional skills, I would recommend you take this module. It is an opportunity to understand what you’ve learnt academically and apply it in a real working environment and increase the chances of employment after university.
