Summer abroad programmes

The ACU July School provides students with a hands-on opportunity to learn and explore in Sydney, one of the world’s most spectacular cities! Students choose one of the following modules during the two-week programme.

International Business Field Experience will broaden your knowledge and experience of business by exploring themes around entrepreneurship, innovation, global responsibility and innovation in the context of Australian business culture, operations and organisational behaviour.

Justice and Change in a Global World introduces themes around the dignity of the human person within the context of a global community. On completion of this unit you will have acquired the skills and knowledge to become an active agent for change in an interconnected and interdependent world.

Costs

The tuition for this programme is waived for three St Mary's students. Students will pay for flights, visa (if necessary), accommodation (approx. £165/week). meals and spending money. You should budget about £2000 for this programme.

  • Dates: This programme usually runs three weeks in July
  • Eligibility: This programme is open to all students

Catholic University of Korea Global Summer School gives you the chance to meet new friends from around the world and have free time to explore the city of Seoul. The programme includes an organised orientation, 15 hours per week of Korean language classes and seminars about Korean society, culture and history. Students can also participate in Korean culture sessions, including tae kwon do lessons, a Korean BBQ party, cooking classes and discovering K-pop. There are optional excursions to places of interests, such as Gyeonbok Palace, DMZ tour and Bo Ryeong Mud Festival.

Costs

The tuition for this programme is waived for three St Mary's students, however students should expect to pay a non-refundable administrative fee of approximately £300. Students will pay for flights, visa (if necessary), accommodation (approx. £250), meals and spending money. You should budget approximately £1500 for this programme.

  • Dates: This programme usually 3.5 weeks in August or September
  • Eligibility: This programme is open to all students

The IBH Summer School consists of a 3 1/2-week intensive German language course accompanied by an attractive cultural programme located on beautiful Lake Constance. Learning German can be more than studying grammar and memorising vocabulary. It can also mean discovering the culture of German-speaking countries, spending the summer in the tri-border region of Germany's biggest lake in the heart of Europe and making international friends! The IBH Summer School is hosted by the University of Konstanz, known for being a modern, small and highly awarded university. 

Costs

The tuition for this programme is waived for two St Mary's students. Students pay for travel, visa (if necessary), accommodation (approx. approx. £350/month), meals and spending money. You should budget about £800 for this programme.

  • Location: Tokyo, Japan
  • Dates: This programme usually offers two 3-week sessions in June and July
  • Eligibility: This programme is open to all students who have completed at least one year of undergraduate study (excluding Foundation Year) with a minimum 57% average.

Since its foundation in 1961, Sophia University’s three-week summer programme has introduced students to Japanese culture and provided a chance to explore the country’s relationship with Asia and the rest of the world. Participants choose two or three intensive modules, which might include Japanese language, history, art, religion, literature, society, culture, economics, and politics. Some modules also feature related field trips. In addition to the academics, students are encouraged to participate in field trips and cultural events, such as opportunities to attend performances of Noh and Kabuki, experience Japanese tea ceremony and ikebana, visit Meiji Shrine, and attend a Wadaiko (Japanese drum) lesson. (Events may change each year.)

  • Dates: This programme usually runs for two weeks in August
  • Eligibility: The business and hospitality modules are open to all students. The law module is open to LLB and LLM students only

Taylor's University two-week summer programme offers three distinct options that include lectures, seminars and field trips. Students can choose from the following options: 

Doing Business in Asia helps students understand international business, cross-cultural issues, innovation, culture and entrepreneurship. The modules also feature related field trips and excursions and is open to all students. 

Hospitality Management introduces students to global hospitality trends and provides an overview of the international chain of hotels in Malaysia. Students participate in field trips and meet key players in the industry to enhance their knowledge of the global hospitality field and gear them up future careers. 

Malaysian Legal Systems is organised in collaboration with prestigious law firms and includes an introduction to the Malaysian legal system, Parliament, Attorney General and Syariah courts and interesting virtual field trips to related institutions. This option is only open to students who have completed at least 1 year of LLB Law or LLM Law.   

Costs

The programme charges approximately £700, which includes airport pickup, accommodation and some activities. Students pay for travel, visa (if necessary), accommodation, meals and spending money. You should budget about £1800 for this programme.
