Latest: Plans for Students Self Isolating in Halls of Residence
Update from Jo Blunden, Chief Operating Officer, St Mary’s University.

Your home away from home should feel safe and comfortable. We’re working hard to make sure student life is as normal as possible while protecting everyone in our community.

All our facilities are open. So, whether you need to put on a quick wash in the laundry, or want to head down to dinner with friends, daily life at St Mary’s will soon feel familiar.

But we’ve had to make some changes to keep everyone safe. Hand sanitiser stations or hand washing facilities are available throughout campus, there are screens and one-way systems, and we’ve spread out seating to give everyone more space.

Perhaps the biggest change is our residential ‘bubble’ system for students living on campus. This is the best way for resident students to socialise together in shared areas within their bubble – that way if you are living in University accommodation you won’t need to social-distance when spending time with other members of your residential bubble. In line with current social distancing and lockdown rules, this means resident students can't socialise anywhere indoors with people from outside of their residential bubble come, such as at mealtimes.

We know that moving away from home for the first time is a big deal (even before the pandemic). Don’t forget we’ll be there every step of the way and we have lots of support available if you need it.

What happens if I need to self-isolate?

We have an online form you can fill in to let us know you need to self-isolate. Then we’ll take care of the rest. We’ll deliver meals and check in to make sure you’re OK. Since many of your classes will be available online, you won’t miss out on too much. Our fast, reliable, unlimited WiFi will enable you to access your online learning without any issues.

A member of our Residential Life team will check in with you to discuss any support you might need. This could include help accessing wellbeing resources, medication or hygiene products.

Where can I find more information about your COVID-19 measures?

We have a Facebook page for applicants which has the latest news and events. We’ll also keep updating our website as things change. If there’s anything urgent we may also get in touch with you directly. Your safety is our top priority, which is why we’ve signed the London Higher COVID-19 Secure Charter.
