Applying for a PhD

Research degree applications

All potential research students must discuss their proposal with the Academic Director for Research in one of the Academic Schools:

Please note: you should receive a response from the Academic Director within ten working days. For general enquiries please contact research@stmarys.ac.uk.

Following your initial discussion, if we can take your application forward one of the following options will be offered with appropriate forms provided.

Pre-registration application

This is a preparatory stage to develop your proposal for application to full registration (if required).

Full registration application

If the academic staff consider that your proposal is sufficiently developed they may advise application to full registration.

Once approved by St Mary's - and then by Liverpool Hope University (as the awarding institution) - your research can begin at the next scheduled entry point in the academic calendar.
