The Theatre is an adaptable space; it’s default configuration is end on retractable seating, with a capacity of 114 with a loose front row of seating.

There is a full set of black drapes to surround the playing area and the stage is painted a non-reflective matt black.

  • Attached to The Theatre is a small workshop, which uses include:
  • Set building
  • Welding
  • Props making and casting (with moulding equipment).

There's also an excellent costume store with wardrobe facilities and a large cutting space, along with two dressing rooms that include toilet and shower.

The Theatre also has it’s own box office to the front of the venue.

Lighting

A well stocked lighting inventory includes industry standard ETC and Selecon Profiles, Fresnels and Par tungsten units. An ever expanding selection of LED fixtures includes Chauvet Par’s for colour washing and beams, Martin Mac Aura hugely versatile moving wash / beam lights and Chauvet Ovations, specifically for cyclorama lighting. As technology moves on so does the inventory of available units.

Lighting in The Theatre includes:

  • Fixed, IWB (HEIGHT FROM STAGE 5200mm)
  • 126 circuits (with some pairing). Inclusive of 20 stage level circuits and 18, 13A Independents.
  • Control is through Chauvet MagicQ architecture
  • Optoma EH-7700 7500 lumen projector with dedicated Mac Pro control.

Sound

The Theatre has a wide selection of microphones including instrument specific mics, radio mics and dynamic and condenser microphones.

A selection of satellite speakers allows for spot speaker effects, onstage monitors and ancillary positions.

The theatre has a full wired and wireless comms system, encompassing a dedicated Stage Managers Prompt Desk, complete with Cue Light system. A fundamental aid to the training of a Deputy Stage Manager within the theatre industry.

Drama St Mary’s has a sound isolation booth, a very useful facility for sound, vocal and foley recording.

A fully licensed control software includes Ableton Live (which can be found across the Mac suites on campus) for sound effect and music production, various licenses for sound production software and full Q-Lab theatre specific cuing software.
