As part of their community physiotherapy placement, St Mary’s University second year Physiotherapy students Izzie Henden and Georgia Resoort have been working with Local Exercise Groups for Stroke (LEGS), supporting people living with stroke through both in-person and online group rehab sessions.

The pair have also contributed to a digital project, helping film outcome measures to guide patients in completing assessments independently at home.

This project aims to:

  • Produce video outcome measures for patient use at home
  • Ensure outcome measures are being used to track patient progress and support clients are in the right level class
  • Provide LEGS with a recourse.

As part of this project, St Mary’s students have been learning in more depth about the outcome measures and videoing these, as well as leading classes with a qualified neuro physiotherapist.

Speaking on this experience Izzie said, “It’s good to apply the outcome measures into practice – it really deepens your understanding of them.”

Georgia added, “LEGS provide an amazing service for neuro patients, creating a supportive community for people with a wide range of neurological conditions."
