Placements in medical settings

Safeguarding

If you are on placement in a medical setting, your work will involve working with children and vulnerable adults. To be successful, you need to have an awareness of the safeguarding responsibilities of a medical professional. It is likely that you will become aware of challenging circumstances of individuals in your care or those with complex needs. You may also be someone an individual discloses to; in this case it is essential that you follow the safeguarding policy in your placement organisation. If you feel distressed by a safeguarding concern or situation on placement, seek support from your placement supervisor at the first instance. Your Placement Officer is also available to support you while you are on placement.

Professionalism

Maintain a high level of professionalism. Whether interacting with patients, doctors, or fellow staff members, and exhibit respect, integrity, and a strong work ethic. Professional conduct is vital in the medical industry and it is essential that you uphold trust in the profession.

Legal and ethical considerations

Understand and adhere to legal and ethical considerations in medical practice. This includes issues related to patient confidentiality, respect, health and safety, and compliance with regulations.
