Given the spread of COVID-19 and the turmoil associated with the virus, it is with sincere regret and sadness that it has been decided to cancel this year’s Warwick Summer School.

This decision has been made to ensure the safety of students, colleagues and all those involved with the Summer School. Warwick have contacted all applicants with further information.

About the summer school

Students on the Warwick Summer School in London will be taught by academics from one of the UK’s leading Universities, whilst living in the beautiful London suburb of Strawberry Hill.

St Mary’s peaceful and self-contained campus is only 30 minutes from the heart of London, making this a unique “best of both worlds” experience. In addition to the excellent academic courses, students will also enjoy lectures from inspirational guest speakers as well as a fun and engaging social programme.

There will be plenty of time in the programme for students to explore central London and the local area. Students who have attended previous Summer Schools were overwhelmingly positive about their experience, with 97% of them saying they would recommend it to others.

Courses

Whether you want to boost your core knowledge, are looking for something more specialised, or would like to learn something new, we have a course that is right for you. All of our Summer School courses are three weeks long and are suitable for students 18+ and who are currently studying (or who have previously studied) at undergraduate or postgraduate level. Details of specific entry requirements for each course are on the Warwick website.

Taught by top faculty members, the courses will reflect the highest standards of Warwick’s and St Mary’s learning.

Inspirational guest lecture programme

Our Summer School includes a fantastic programme of interactive sessions with eminent public figures. Past speakers have included: gold-medal winning Alpine skier, Kelly Gallagher, Nobel Prize Winner, Professor George Akerlof, Former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith and Former Cabinet Secretary, Lord Gus O’Donnell. The speaker programme is included in the tuition fee.

Social and cultural programme

Our fun social programme is a real highlight of the Summer School. The tuition fee includes: a BBQ on arrival, an elegant three course welcome dinner at Twickenham Stadium, a lively curry, karaoke and Disco night, a choice of sports activities and a farewell graduation and afternoon tea reception on the final day.

Students will also get the opportunity to visit Warwick University’s main campus which lies a short journey north of London. In addition, we offer a number of optional trips, which students can pay for separately. These will include things such as: day trips to Oxford and Brighton, a tour of the Harry Potter Studios and tickets to some of London’s top attractions like the London Eye and West End Theatre to see The Lion King.

Sports activities

During the three weeks, you also have the opportunity to take part in sports activities in between your studying. St Mary's has a strong reputation of performing at the top level of international and university sport and has excellent sport facilities. You will be able to participate in football sessions, join our informal Summer School Running Club, a number of organised ultimate frisbee games and more.
