Established in 1850 with a distinctive Catholic identity, St Mary's is a friendly and inclusive university, welcoming those from all faiths and none.

Our long and distinguished history as a Catholic institution for the education of teachers has broadened over time and whilst still offering many degrees dedicated to teacher education, we now also offer programmes in subjects such as varied as Sport, Drama, Theology and Business.

Our green and picturesque campus offers a small village feel, despite our West London location and short train journey into the hustle and bustle of Central London.

A welcoming community

We are proud of our small, tight-knit community campus where you'll quickly get to know everyone on your course. This includes not just your fellow students, but your lecturers as well with many students praising the personal approach given to supporting them through their studies.

St Mary’s University is unique in so many ways and for me, what makes them so special is their devoted staff. My tutors have made the effort to get to know me on a personal level and they are always there if I need constructive advice or even just a chat. Georgina Malone (Primary PGCE graduate)

Understandably, there are many challenges - emotionally and practically - to overcome when deciding to study outside of Ireland. A common concern is the thought of moving away from friends and family. The Students' Union run a range of clubs and societies, offering you a fantastic way to meet new people with similar interests.

I got stuck in with the society that suited my interests from home best, Gaelic Football. This is where I met guys from similar areas, with similar backgrounds, to me; and we quickly became friends. Conal Baxter (English and History graduate and Students’ Union President 2017/18)

Sport for all

We offer world-class sport facilities and are ranked in the top 4 for UK universities for our sports scene (Which? University Student Survey 2019). These facilities are used for the teaching of our sport and health degrees, but are available to everybody; whether you’re an amateur or elite athlete.

Our GAA teams have had fantastic success in the British University Gaelic Football Championship. The women's side has won the competition 11 times (the most of any university) and the men's team has lifted the trophy 8 times. We are, in fact, the only London university to have won either the men's or women's championship!
