Senior Lecturer in Early Years and Primary Education at St Mary’s University, Twickenham (SMU), Dr Viki Veale, was recently invited to be on the panel for Education Question Time hosted by BBC journalist Victoria Derbyshire at the University of Winchester.

Viki represented the Early Years sector during the debate, as chair of Together and Committed to Young Children (TACTYC).

Led by Newsnight presenter Victoria Derbyshire, the expert panel which included academics, teachers, an education student, and an MP were questioned on topics covering the whole of education, from early years to university.

The event was held in Winchester's Stripe Auditorium, with over 200 attendees in the audience including young people from colleges and schools in the region.

Speaking on the event Viki said, “It was a wonderful evening of discussion and debate led by Victoria Derbyshire. There were some wonderful questions ranging from smart phones in schools, VAT on independent schools, children missing in education, SEND (special educational needs and disabilities), curriculum design, and the expansion of school based early years provision. It was a privilege to be part of the panel.”
