Ten athletes from St Mary’s University, London have qualified to represent their nations at the European Athletics Championships from 10-16 August.
This is the first European Championships to be held in Great Britain, with the championships being held at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
This follows recent success at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games for St Mary’s athletes.
Endurance Performance Centre (EPC) associate, former world champion, and Olympian Jake Wightman will be competing in the men’s 1500m. Jake has also been named captain for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team at the championships.
Other EPC associates competing include Katie Snowden in the women’s 1500m and India Weir in the women’s 5000m.
St Mary’s and EPC alumna Izzy Fry will be competing in the women’s 10,000m, having come 11th in the Commonwealth Games final. Fellow alumna Stevie Lawrence-Wrist will compete in the women’s 2000m steeplechase.
The men’s 10,000m will see alumnus Joe Wigfield compete alongside current St Mary’s Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) athlete Scott Beatie. Zak Seddon, also a TASS athlete, will compete in the men’s 3000m steeplechase.
St Mary’s and EPC alumna Louise Small and TASS athlete Rose Harvey will both compete in the women’s marathon.
