St Mary’s Appoints Prof Ernest Caldwell as Executive Dean of Faculty

St Mary’s University, Twickenham, has appointed Prof Ernest Caldwell as the new Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law, Education, and Theology (FABLET).

Prof Caldwell joins the University with over two decades of senior leadership experience across public, private, and independent higher education institutions in the UK and internationally. His distinguished career includes transformative roles at Regent College London, SOAS, Goldsmiths and Regent, where he has led large-scale strategic developments, advanced curriculum reform and developed innovative domestic and international partnerships.

Speaking of his appointment, Provost and Chief Academic Officer at St Mary’s University Prof Sara Spear said, "We are delighted to welcome Prof Caldwell to St Mary’s at such a pivotal moment in the University’s growth. His extensive leadership experience and commitment to academic excellence make him ideally placed to lead FABLET as a vibrant, inclusive, and future-focused faculty, that prioritises student experience and real-world impact.”

As Executive Dean of Faculty FABLET, Prof Caldwell will lead the School of Business and Law, the School of Education, and the School of Theology and the Arts. He will play a pivotal role in driving interdisciplinary collaboration, championing teaching and research excellence, and ensuring the Faculty’s programmes remain both academically rigorous and responsive to the needs of students and employers.

The creation of FABLET marks an exciting new chapter for St Mary’s academic areas, bringing together diverse disciplines to foster creativity, critical thinking, and impact. Prof Caldwell’s proven track record in regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and strategic growth will be instrumental in delivering the ambitions of the University’s Academic Strategy and Vision 2030, including in driving successful and sustainable academic partnerships.
