Lecturer in Sports Journalism and Marketing at St Mary’s University, Richard Lenton, has executive produced the BBC documentary ‘Football’s Financial Shame: The Story of the V11’.
Richard has been working on the documentary for the last five years, which uncovers the story of eleven former Premier League footballers who say their financial advisors caused them to lose tens of millions of pounds in investments. The eleven men are all part of the V11 campaign group.
In the film, the group share how coming together has helped them get through this ordeal and give them the strength to go public with their story.
Richard is an experienced journalist, lecturer, performance coach and broadcaster, who won Best Sports Presenter at the 2013 and 2015 Asian Television Awards for his work out in Singapore and India, where he anchored live Premier League, FA Cup, European and international football on Mediacorp, Eleven Sports, SingTel TV and Sony TEN.
He has been a lecturer at St Mary’s since 2018, and was awarded the Walpole Prize for excellence in teaching in 2023.
Speaking on the launch of the documentary Richard said, “Just over five years ago I started work on the biggest story of my career. It was so big and so complex that, in order to do the story justice, I took it to the best documentary makers in the business, the brilliant team at Noah Media.
“I’m so proud of everyone involved with the making of the film, and an inspiring group of footballers and experts who have bravely put their heads above the parapet to share their story.”
The documentary is available on BBC iPlayer now and will air on BBC 2 at 9pm on Tuesday 2nd September.
