Four St Mary’s University, London athletes successfully made finals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Hosted in Glasgow from 23rd July-2nd August, the annual Games bring together sporting talent from across the Commonwealth to compete for their countries.
Endurance Performance Centre (EPC) alumnus, former world champion and Olympian Jake Wightman finished 6th place in the men’s mile final for Scotland. He ran a time of 3:56.36.
Alumna Izzy Fry finished in 11th place for Team England in the women’s 10,000m final with a time of 32:50.81.
St Mary’s was also represented by three Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) athletes at the games. Daniel Wolff finished 5th in the T20 1500m with a time of 4:09.57, while Scott Beattie also came 5th in the men’s 10,000m with a time of 27:54.50.
Ten athletes, students and alumni from St Mary’s University were selected to represent their nations at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
The success for St Mary’s at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games comes ahead of the British Milers Club (BMC) Grand Prix being held at St Mary’s University on Sunday 9th August. The BMC Grand Prix is their top-level meeting held with defined entry standards. The Grand Prix forms part of the World Continental Tour.
The event will take place on the Sir Mo Farah Athletics Track, and will see athletes compete in the 1500m, 2000m steeplechase, 3000m and 800m across age categories.
