London 2017 World Championships training camps

China

The Chinese Athletics Association (CAA) returned to St Mary’s University, Twickenham as their base ahead of the London 2017 World Championships, following a successful camp ahead of London 2012.

St Mary's provided training facilities and catering to the team of 70 athletes and coaches, who stayed in the nearby Lensbury Hotel.

Japan

St Mary's hosted athletes from the Japanese Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) in their preparations for the London 2017 World Athletics Championships.

The University provided training facilities, accommodation and catering to 26 JAAF athletes competing in a range of endurance running, race walking and jumping events. Amongst the athletes based at St Mary’s was Rio 2016 Olympian Hirooki Arai, who won a Bronze medal in the 50km race walking.
