Biography

Susannah joined St. Mary’s University in 2011 after previously working in primary schools for 15 years. Whilst in school, Susannah was a lead literacy teacher for Westminster providing a model of good practice in the teaching of literacy for teachers across the borough. She then worked as a music specialist teacher for schools in Richmond upon Thames. In this role, she worked closely with Richmond Music Trust as an associate music teacher, running primary choirs and wider opportunities vocal sessions. She was also involved in running of the annual Richmond Singing Festival. Susannah is also a trustee for a community school in Livingstone, Zambia, a role which enables her to share her experience and understanding of primary education with teaching colleagues in East Africa.

Susannah has a BA (Hons) in Drama, a PGCE in Primary Education and an MA in Academic Practice. She is also a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. At St Mary’s Susannah is course lead for the full time Primary PGCE course and a senior lecturer in primary music and drama, subjects which is she passionate about sharing with trainee teachers due to the huge benefits they can bring to children’s learning and wellbeing.  In her role at St Mary’s, Susannah aims to make the teaching of creative subjects such as music and drama as accessible and enjoyable for teachers, as they are for children.
