SIMMSactive is our social sports programme that enables you to try out lots of new sports with a weekly timetable of activities – helping you to stay healthy, enjoy getting active and develop new skills. All activities are student-led, free, recreational and accessible to all students, regardless of ability!
Book a session
As a result of the Government Roadmap out of Lockdown, Sport St Mary’s and St Mary’s Students’ Union have been developing our SIMMSactive programme to provide students with new free, recreational and safe opportunities to get active, in line with the most recent Government and sport-specific National Governing Body guidance and restrictions.
Please note: we are currently reviewing the first phase of the return to SIMMSactive and plan to release details of the next phase of the programme shortly.
To take part, you need to book in via our online booking system, sessions can be booked into up to seven days in advance.
Guidance on how to book can be found on our Return to Sport page.
You may book onto the session as an individual or with a group of friends, however each participant must book onto the session via their own personal online account. If possible, it makes sense to coordinate with other students to book onto a specific session so that you have sufficient participants for the activity whilst not exceeding the maximum capacity for each session.
The online booking system will not allow more participants to book on than the maximum number set for each session, and only students that have booked on can take part.
Why do I need to book?
As per government guidelines, we are required to keep a record of all participants to support NHS Test and Trace, a key component of the country’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This also allows us to manage the capacity within each session, ensure we are adhering to National Governing Body guidelines, and maximise your safety in all sessions. Consequently, only students that have booked onto a session can participate.
Most activity is taking place on the main campus sport pitch – please follow the pitch signage and check your booking details to ensure you are on the right pitch.
Teddington Lock sessions
If booked into netball at Teddington Lock please coordinate your group to arrange collection of the gate keys – instructions can be found in the terms and conditions.
Staying COVID safe
As per government requirements you should minimise the number of journeys you are making and avoid travelling during peak hours and on busy routes. However, travel for sport and exercise is permitted.
To help ensure everyone’s safety, it is important that all conduct their sport in a responsible manner. Please ensure to:
- Follow our general covid-safe guidelines:
- If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 you must not participate, and should self-isolate and be tested as soon as possible
- Avoid using the changing rooms – arrive changed and ready and then shower and change at home appropriate
- All equipment should be cleaned using the cleaning products provided
- Please maintain social distancing and wash hands regularly
- Stick to the National Governing Body guidelines for your sport:
Please check our terms and conditions to see all the guidelines.
