Primary teacher training interviews

Application and shortlisting

In order to be called for interview you will have met the entry requirements required for an application to St Mary's University. It will be expected that you demonstrate your reasoning for wanting to teach in a primary education setting.

If applying for the Primary PE Specialism, you should also demonstrate how PE links to the child's development as a unique individual.

It is advised that you present your application at a professional level which should be accurate and contain relevance to primary teaching. It would be appropriate to indicate why you wish to enter into teaching as a career.

Interview day

Initial Teacher Training interviews for 2021 programmes at St Mary's University will be conducted online and will be recorded. The interview will be conducted by a member of the St. Mary's primary teaching staff. There are no "trick" questions - we want to find out more about your decision to become a primary school teacher. It will be an opportunity for you to demonstrate that you have made a fully informed decision to be a teacher and you will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Interview preparation

You will have received information prior to the interview from the University Admissions team. Please read and review this information carefully, including the video from the Programme Director.

In the meantime, do take a virtual tour of our beautiful campus.
