Work placements for St Mary's students
The Centre for Workplace Learning (CWL) offers students an opportunity to undertake an accredited work placement in the sector of their choice.
We work with students to find placements that reflect their personal and professional requirements. Students can work in a range of organisations including local schools and charities, small enterprises, international brands and professional sports clubs.
Our specialised modules including those focussing on Education, Business, Sport, Entrepreneurship and Leadership enable students to develop their professional practice in the field as well as build an understanding of the workplace, of their own strengths and of the attributes required to work in their chosen sector.
Students attend workshops, take part in creative challenges, work on virtual scenarios, undertake psychometric testing and practice their presentation techniques while gaining an understanding of how the theory they learn at university translates into practice.
Why do a work placement?
Taking a work placement module at St Mary's will enable you to gain practical experience which complements your degree studies and provides networking opportunities to help with gaining graduate employment. The focus of the modules is on developing your ability to reflect on and develop your own professional practice and gain an in-depth understanding of the graduate working environment.
Whatever subject you are studying, a placement will enhance your learning and help to prepare you for life after university. You can undertake a placement in the Arts, in the media, in business, in a charity, in a school, in a tourist attraction, in a sports club or in government offices. There is no limit to the types of organisation that can offer a genuine learning experience and a chance to network, develop and get one step ahead on the career ladder.
