Country Scholarship Undergraduate

Amount

  • £1,500/year tuition fee discount for all years of study (excluding placement years with a reduced tuition fee), and for all courses except those eligible for the £1,000 reduced discount listed below.

Excellence Scholarship Undergraduate

Amount

  • Each applicant will be assessed based on prior academic achievement and Country of domicile
  • Must also meet ‘General Eligibility’ criteria mentioned below.

General eligibility (Applies to all scholarships)

Applicants must:

  • Be classified as an overseas fee payer (including British passport holders)
  • Be enrolled on a full-time, on-campus undergraduate course starting in Sept 2026, or Jan 2027 intakes.
  • Awards are not available for Distance learning courses.
  • Applicants can only hold either Country or Excellence scholarship at a time
  • Awards are made at the discretion of St Mary’s University
  • By accepting these scholarship, the holders are agreeing to act as ambassadors for St Mary’s University throughout their degree. Activities may include providing testimonials and participating in events (in-person or virtual), subject to availability and timetable.

Country Scholarship Postgraduate

Amount

  • £2,500 tuition fee discount for MBA applicants
  • £1,500 tuition fee discount for all other postgraduate courses, except those eligible for the £1,000 reduced discount listed below.
  • £1,000 tuition fee discount for these courses;
    • Courses in Nutrition, Psychology, Sports Science, Sports Rehabilitation, Strength & Conditioning, Sports Coaching, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy
    • MRes in Sport, Health and Applied Science
    • PGCE courses without UK Government bursary, e.g. PGCE Secondary Physics

General eligibility (Applies to all scholarships)

Applicants must:

  • Be classified as an overseas fee payer (including British passport holders)
  • Be enrolled on a full-time, on-campus postgraduate taught (not research) course starting in Sept 2026, or Jan 2027 intakes.
  • Applicants can only hold either Country or Excellence scholarship at a time
  • Awards are for first year only, if the postgraduate course is of more than one year duration.
  • Awards are not available for Distance learning courses.
  • Awards are not available for any research, MPhil and PhD courses
  • Awards are made at the discretion of St Mary’s University
  • By accepting these scholarships, the holders are agreeing to act as ambassadors for St Mary’s University throughout their degree. Activities may include providing testimonials and participating in events (in-person or virtual), subject to availability and timetable.

Please note that students can only hold one St Mary’s scholarship at a time, so it is not possible to receive both a subject or performance scholarship and an international scholarship. 

Sports scholarships

Our sports scholarships provide training services and financial support worth up to £2,000 for student athletes competing successfully in their sport. Gold, silver, and bronze packages with different values are available. These scholarships are open to students in all courses and in all years of study.

At St Mary’s University, we believe that medicine is a vocation rooted in service, compassion, and social purpose. That’s why we’re proud to offer the St Mary’s Medical Student Community Health Champion Scholarship — an award recognising international applicants to our MBBS programme who demonstrate a commitment to supporting community-based care initiatives and running public health campaigns. 

About the scholarship 

This scholarship offers £3,000 per year of study (applied as a tuition fee discount) and is available to 10 international MBBS applicants for September 2026 entry. 

Recipients will be selected based on their performance in the Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) and will exemplify the values of St Mary’s School of Medicine: excellence, generosity of spirit, inclusiveness and respect. 

Examples of qualifying impact may include: 

  • Volunteering in community settings with vulnerable groups 
  • Supporting public health campaigns or education initiatives 
  • Working with under-resourced populations to increase healthcare access 

Eligibility criteria 

  • Must be an international applicant (assessed as overseas for fee purposes) 
  • Applying for entry to the MBBS programme in 2026/27 (cannot be deferred) 
  • Must have passed the Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) and received a Conditional or Unconditional Offer and meet all general MBBS entry requirements. 
  • Demonstrate alignment with the School of Medicine’s social purpose values 
  • Scholarships cannot be held in conjunction with other St Mary’s awards or full-fee external sponsorships 

Terms and conditions 

  • Award value: £3,000 per year, applied as a tuition fee discount 
  • Duration: Valid for all 5 years of MBBS study, excluding intercalation years or years repeated 
  • Cannot be transferred, deferred, or exchanged for cash 
  • Awarded prior to enrolment, but subject to meeting deposit payment and visa conditions 
  • Students must maintain good academic standing, free from disciplinary and fitness to practice concerns, meet UKVI attendance requirements, and progress normally to retain the award 
  • Students may be asked to take part in ambassadorial activities, including Open Days or providing testimonials 
  • The Scholarship may not be awarded in conjunction with any other St Mary’s University scholarship.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship

Commonwealth shared scholarships are funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), contributing to the UK’s international development aims and wider overseas interests. This scholarship is an opportunity for students from selected Commonwealth countries to receive a full tuition waiver, funding to cover the cost of flights, visa fees, and a stipend to help with the cost of living while studying.

We are pleased to announce that St Mary’s University has been selected to nominate scholars for September 2025 entry in the following programmes:

Applications to the Commonwealth Commission open on Monday, 11 November, and close on Thursday, 12 December at 4pm GMT.

HESPAL – Higher Education Scholarship for Palestinians 

The HESPAL Scholarship, a collaboration between the British Council and St Mary's University, Twickenham, supports junior academic staff from Palestinian universities in pursuing an English Master's degree. This initiative fosters the development of future senior academics, ensuring international standards at Palestinian universities while fostering enduring connections between Palestinian and UK academic institutions.

The scholarship cannot be used in conjunction with any other award or discount.

Chevening Scholarship

We are thrilled to share that St. Mary's will be granting the prestigious Chevening Scholarship for September 2024. Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the Chevening Scholarships empower exceptional emerging leaders worldwide to undertake one-year master’s degrees in the UK. This scholarship presents a unique chance for students from designated Chevening-eligible countries to benefit from a complete tuition waiver, financial support for airfare and visa expenses, along with a stipend to assist with living expenses during their studies.

Global Scholarships

Global Scholarships is offering a $3,000 scholarship to one international student per academic year. This annual scholarship is designed to make scholarships more accessible to international students. 

Eligibility criteria

You must meet all of the following to be eligible:

  • You must be an international student
  • You must be a current or a prospective student who will be enrolled in a postsecondary degree program (Diploma, Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Ph.D., as well as professional programs like law and medicine)

The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding 

The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding Online is a huge database of charities and organisations that award funding for postgraduate study in the UK, including master’s and research degrees.

Many sources of funding are open to international students, although some may only be available to students from certain countries or for certain subjects. The Guide also includes advice and tools to help you to make a successful application. 

All students can pay for access to the Guide. If you hold an offer to study at St Mary’s, you can access the Guide for free. Please email studentfundingservice@stmarys.ac.uk with your Student ID number and the name of the course that you’ve applied for to ask for access. Once you have access, you login on the The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding gateway.

EU student loans through FINS 

EU students may be eligible for a student loan of up to 25.000 EUR for undergraduate or postgraduate studies at St Mary’s from FINS. 

The FINS loan scheme is available to all students from an EU member state who want to study in the UK or Europe. Loans may be used for tuition fees, accommodation, travel, and other costs related to studying in the UK. 

Eligibility 

  • You must be a citizen of an EU member state.
  • You must have a good academic record.
  • You must have a clean financial record (for example, not blacklisted with any outstanding/unpaid debts for previous loans by any other financial institutions).
  • Further criteria may also apply as detailed on the FINS website.

There is no deadline to apply, but applications can take time to process so we recommend that you apply early. Contact FINS for more information. 

EU Students with settled or pre-settled status 

If you have successfully applied for settled or pre-settled status, then you are entitled to study in the UK without a student visa, and pay the home fees for university courses. This means that you are not eligible for an international scholarship from St Mary’s, but you may be eligible for a  scholarship or bursary open to our home students, and student finance for undergraduate,  postgraduate, or doctoral studies. 

The UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) provide detailed information on Brexit, the EU Settlement Scheme, and what this means for students.

US Federal Aid 

St Mary's participates in the US government's William D Ford Federal Direct Loan Program. Students who qualify for these loans can see more information on our  US Federal Aid pages. 

Global Education Management Services is another source of loans for students affiliated with the US. 

Lånekassen (the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund)

The Lånekassen loan, the Norwegian state Education Loan Fund is exclusively accessible to Norwegian students and serves to aid with expenses including tuition, accommodation, meals, and study materials. for more information please visit their website Lånekassen.

Danish Grants and Loan Scheme (SU)

Danes can receive support for studying abroad, provided the courses meet the same recognition standards as those in Denmark and the qualifications obtained are applicable in Denmark.

For studies in Nordic countries, support is granted for the standard duration of the chosen program, plus an additional 12 months if the student begins their first higher education program within two years of completing their initial qualifying exam. For studies in other countries, support is available for four-year programs or for the final four years of longer programs.

Support for studies in Denmark can also be used to fund studies abroad if they are part of a Danish institution's program.
