St Mary's University's responsibility to you as a student

We as an institution also have a responsibility to you as a student too. To give you an understanding as to why we have established these responsibilities, here is a list of the conditions St Mary’s University must meet in order to ensure that our Tier 4 License is safeguarded.

These responsibilities are set by the Home Office:

  • Ensure that the institution retains valid copies of biometric information, visas, passport
  • Ensure that valid checks are done (with the students consent) on outstanding applications under different immigration controls eg Asylum, Tier 2 etc
  • Ensure that student contact information is up to date
  • Ensure that the attendance is monitored and course participation of Tier 4 students and other international students under immigration controls
  • Ensure to accurately report any students to UKVI that have failed to meet the Home Office requirements
  • Keep an accurate record of work placements undertaken by Tier 4 students. This will include the work placement address and the proportion of the course that the placement will take up
  • Notify UKVI of any students who do not register for their programme within the registration period
  • Notify UKVI of any students who interrupt or withdraw from their programme of study
  • Notify UKVI about any significant changes to a student’s circumstances or programme of studies eg if a student decides to complete their course early
  • Notify UKVI if student’s change their immigration status / category eg going from being a Tier4 student to getting a Tier 2 visa
  • Notify UKVI if we have reason to believe that students are breaking the conditions of their permission to stay, such as working more hours than permitted
