St Mary’s University sport scholar, Isabella James has been named both Bowler of the Year and Women’s Club Player of the Year by Kent County Cricket Club - one of the most successful women’s sides in England and Wales.

Isabella, who only made her debut for Kent in April, claimed 22 wickets at an average of 25.54 in her first season. Her achievements put her alongside past winners including England captains Charlotte Edwards and Tammy Beaumont.

The awards come as the Cricket World Cup gets underway, placing added spotlight on women’s cricket and Kent’s role in developing elite talent. Kent has produced several England internationals, among them Lydia Greenway, Tash Farrant, Tammy Beaumont and Alice Davidson-Richards.

Isabella said "To win these awards is a huge honour and something I’ll never forget. Having only made my debut for Kent this season, I never imagined I would achieve something like this in my very first year. To be recognised for these awards is incredible, and to see my name on the trophy alongside such outstanding cricketers is amazing. It’s truly a privilege to receive this recognition."

Andrew Reid-Smith, Head of Sport at St Mary’s University, said: “We are so proud of Izzy and her achievements. It takes a lot of work and skill to be recognised as Player of the Year, and I already know from Izzy’s drive that she’ll be planning how to build on her excellent season. Huge congratulations to her!”

Isabella is the latest in a line of St Mary’s athletes to earn national recognition. The University has an international reputation for sporting excellence, supported by world-class facilities including a performance education centre and conditioning suite.
