Professional Behaviours: Other adults in the classroom

During the School Experience, a trainee will meet and plan for a number of other adults working in the classroom:

  • Higher Learning Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) and teaching assistants
  • Early Years practitioners
  • Visiting professionals (social workers, psychologists)
  • Governors
  • Parents

Teaching assistants have a vital role to play in the primary setting and will be employed to work in ways to support individual classes, teachers, groups and individuals. An important part of a trainee’s role is to work effectively with other adults. In consultation with the CBM, trainees may be required to deploy the adult to work with individual children or a group, or they may plan to include them in the main ‘teacher input’ part of the lesson.
