St Mary's Olympic Highlights

  • Mo Farah becoming the first British man to win the 10,000m and one week later taking Gold in the 5000m. Both were performances that set him apart as the greatest GB distance runner of all time.

  • Moe Sbihi’s contribution to a brave squad performance in the men’s rowing eight to take Bronze


  • Andrew Osagie making the 800m final, running a PB of 1:43.77 in the best ever 800m race to go fourth on the British all-time list behind Seb Coe, Steve Cram and Peter Elliott

  • David Weir winning four Gold medals undertaking seven races in ten days and completing 35.3 miles 


  • The Financial Times headline stating that “St Mary’s proves most efficient medal machine” for the contribution made to Team GB’s medal tally

  • Ireland’s Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Enda Kenny, visiting our campus to meet athletes from the Irish Olympic team to wish them good luck


  • Caster Semenya carrying the South African flag during the London 2012 opening ceremony and winning a Silver medal in the 800m
