Biography

Anna is Senior Lecturer in Nutrition & Chronic Disease Management and Course Lead for the MSc Human Nutrition.

Anna is a nutritionist and Registered Dietitian with the HCPC and Hellenic Dietetic Association with clinical, teaching and research experience in the healthcare sector and academia. She holds a BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics from Harokopio University Athens, Greece and a MSc MedSci in Human Nutrition with specialisation in clinical nutrition from the University of Glasgow, UK.

Anna has undertaken her DPhil in Physiology at the University of Oxford, UK investigating the role of vitamin B12 in brain function and dementia as part of the Hordaland Homocysteine study in Norway and the Oxford Project To Investigate Memory & Ageing (OPTIMA). After completing her DPhil, Anna joined the University of Reading as a post-doctoral research associate, and was responsible for the development of a flavonoid database for the assessment of flavonoid intake in Europe as part of the FLAVIOLA project (European research project, funded under the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission and carried out by a consortium of eight national partners).

She is an experienced lecturer with a strong academic background, having taught across four disciplines—Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, and Chronic Disease Management—at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in several higher education institutions, including St Mary’s University, Coventry University, University College Birmingham, and the University of Reading.

In 2015 she was appointed as a Lecturer in Nutrition at University College Birmingham and in 2018 she joined Coventry University as a Lecturer in Nutrition and later became Lecturer in Dietetics in 2021. In 2023 she joined St Mary’s University as a Senior Lecturer in Nutrition and Chronic Disease Management.

Her main teaching interests focus on research methodologies, weight management, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, public health nutrition and sustainable diets.

Research profile

Anna’s research explores the role of nutrition, particularly micronutrients, in supporting human health, with a focus on cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline. She has published her work in peer-reviewed journals and presented her research at both national and international conferences.
