St Mary’s University, London, is proud to announce that its new online MSc Psychology programmes have been accredited by the British Psychology Society (BPS), marking a significant milestone for St Mary’s Online Learning.

The accredited programmes – MSc Psychology, MSc Psychology of Mental Health and Wellbeing, and MSc Psychology with Counselling – launched in September 2025 are all conversion degrees designed for students without a prior psychology background.

BPS accreditation means that graduates of these programmes will be eligible for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), a requirement for most professional careers and further postgraduate training in psychology. The accreditation confirms that the programmes meet recognised UK standards in curriculum design, teaching and academic quality.

The programmes are aimed at students seeking to progress in advanced psychology study, enhance their existing professional practice, or begin a new career pathway in psychology. For many students from non-psychology backgrounds, accredited conversion programmes are an essential first step towards specialist training or employment in the field.

Dr Alison Attrill-Smith, Head of St Mary’s Online Learning, who led the accreditation process welcomed the achievement: “I am extremely pleased that our online psychology programmes have achieved BPS accreditation. This is a major step forward and ensures that our students are supported in achieving their future academic and professional goals through high-quality, recognised programmes.”
