St Mary’s University, Twickenham alumnae Ellie Kildunne, Jess Breach, and Abi Burton are victorious as England’s Red Roses win an eighth successive Women’s Six Nations title.
England won the championship with a 43-28 victory over France, sealing a fifth successive Grand Slam.
Current Physiotherapy student, Aoife Wafer also had a remarkable tournament for Ireland. The back row forward produced a series of standout performances, earning two Player of the Match awards during the championship and helping Ireland secure a third-place finish.
Former St Mary’s students Ellie Kildunne, Jess Breach and Abi Burton were all part of the victorious England squad. The trio were previously recognised by St Mary’s alongside fellow Red Roses player Rosie Galligan when they were awarded Honorary Doctorates by the University in recognition of their outstanding contribution to sport and women’s rugby.
Professor Anthony McClaran, Vice-Chancellor of St Mary’s commented: “We’re incredibly proud of Ellie, Jess, Abi and Aoife for their achievements in this year’s Women’s Six Nations. Women’s rugby continues to inspire audiences around the world, and it is fantastic to see members of our community playing such an important role in the success and growth of the game.”
