WSET Level 1 Award in Wines

wsetSt Mary's University is delighted to host The Rebecca Lamont Wine School, who will deliver the WSET Accredited Level 1 Award in Wines in the beautiful Gothic surroundings of our campus.

We and Rebecca welcome you to the historic Waldegrave Suite, where you will learn about and sample the main types and styles of wine. The course provides a beginner level introduction to wine suitable for those starting a wine career or pursuing an interest in wine. The course is a fun day out that results in a qualification and would be ideal to enjoy with a group of friends or colleagues. 

For individuals new to wine study, this qualification provides a hands-on introduction to the world of wine. You will explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately, and make food and wine pairings.

Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin. 

Dates and times

The course will run between 9am-5.30pm on:

  • Saturday 18th November 2023.

This course will take place on our main campus, Twickenham.

Price

The full price for this course is £175.

Course content

Throughout the day you will cover the WSET full course specification which includes:

  • the main types and styles of wine 
  • common wine grapes and their characteristics 
  • how to store and serve wine 
  • the principles of food and wine pairing 
  • how to describe wine using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT).

Assessment

Assessment will be by a closed-book exam of 30 multiple-choice questions and the qualification is regulated by Ofqual. 

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. You must be of UK legal drinking age to participate.
