Penny Madoc-Jones

Programme Director BA ITE Primary

Penny is Programme Director for BA ITE Primary provision and a senior lecturer in primary foreign languages. She teaches on both the BA and PGCE programmes.

Penny joined St Mary's University in 1999 as visiting lecturer for PGCE secondary modern languages. Previously, she taught French and German in secondary schools in Richmond and was Head of Department for a number of years. 

Penny introduced the primary languages specialist course to the BA programme in 2001 and was involved in setting up the exchange programme with our partner universities in France and Spain. Over the last 13 years, many students have benefited from spending a month in a French or Spanish primary school, teaching English as a foreign language as part of the Year Three enhancement placement. 

She has regularly delivered CPD to teachers and training to local schools. She is a member of the primary languages support group and the ALL Special Interest Group for primary languages.

She has been a governor of a local primary school for twenty years.
