About Research

Stephen is a research fellow at the Centre for Research into the Education of Marginalised Children and Young Adults (CREMCYA) in the School of Education. Currently, he is a learning partner on a project funded by The Mercer's Company working with schools and community groups in their steps to improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people. He is also working with Porticus and The Wates Family Enterprise Trust to map the network(s) of professionals and organisations who are attempting to create a more inclusive education system.

Stephen is a former teacher and teaching assistant who has worked in a range of schools across primary, secondary, and further education.

Research profile

Stephen is particularly interested in the position of the child in the highly managerialist contemporary school, and how the child has come to be treated as a 'worker' to be managed.
