Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)

Where will my BRP be sent?

As part of the online Tier 4 visa application you will need to supply a postcode of the address you will be staying at once you come to the UK. The Home Office will use this information to make sure your BRP is sent to a Post Office near your address.

When you receive your short term visa, you will also receive a decision letter, which will have information about which Post Office you will need to collect your BRP from.

What if I haven’t confirmed my accommodation yet?

Please put St Mary’s address or an address of a relative or friend that you are staying at temporarily on your visa application form. You can then update the Home Office of your new address on their website.

What if I want to collect my BRP form a different Post Office?

You can contact the Post Office where you want to collect your BRP from and request this. You will need to pay a fee for this service. As this may result in a delay, we strongly suggest you collect your BRP from the nominated Post Office, unless it is a significant distance from where you will be staying.

Where are the Post Offices closest to St Mary’s?

The nearest Post Offices to St Mary’s that offer a BRP collection service are as follows:

  • Richmond
    16-17 George Street, Richmond, Surrey, TW9 1JS

22-26 Eden Street, Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey, KT1 1BL
  • Hounslow

You must collect your BRP within ten days of arriving in the UK. You must also collect it before your short term visa expires. If you don’t collect your BRP within ten days of arrival in the UK, you may be subject to a financial penalty or cancellation of your leave.

You won’t need to make an appointment to collect your BRP. St Mary’s will also need to take a copy of your BRP to confirm you have the right to study with us, therefore please collect your BRP before Registration.

What documents do I need to take to the Post Office to collect my BRP?

You must bring your passport or travel document with your vignette when you collect your BRP. You should also bring your decision letter.

What if I can’t collect my BRP in time for registration?

We may not be able to enrol you onto the programme if you have not yet collected your BRP card.

What documents do I need to present at the UK border?

When you arrive in the UK, you should present the following to the Border Force Officers:

  • Your passport with the short term visa
  • Decision letter from the Home Office which shows that you will be collecting your BRP in the UK

You should also carry your offer letter and CAS letter in your hand luggage in case you are asked to show them.

What does a BRP look like?

The BRP is credit card sized and is similar in appearance to UK driving licences.

The Home Office has put together a helpful information leaflet on the BRP.
