Introduction to Lighting For Theatre and Live Events

This course will introduce you to some of the concepts involved in designing and producing lighting for events. It is a practical course with a focus on how lighting for theatre and live events is physically designed, rigged and programmed into a finished product. At the end of the course you will have practical knowledge of how to use different pieces of equipment and how to connect it all for the required job.

Dates and times

This course will run from 10am-5pm over three days:

  • Monday 8th July 2024
  • Tuesday 9th July 2024
  • Wednesday 10th July 2024.

This course will be held at our Main Campus, Twickenham.

Content

On the first day of this course you will learn about:

  • the process, concepts and objectives of lighting
  • lighting methods, angles, control, focus, and lighting accessories.

Day two will include:

  • reading plans
  • ladders, rigging, rig and focus.

Day three ends the course with a programming exercise to put your new knowledge into practice.

This course is practical and sensible clothing will be required.  There will also be some work at height, for which training is provided.

Requirements

All participants must be over 18 years of age to enrol.

Please note: There will be some working at height (basic training given).

Award

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a certificate of attendance, issued by St Mary’s University.
