St Mary’s University offers a range of degrees with a foundation year to help students who do not have the qualifications to meet the entry requirements for an undergraduate degree develop the skills and knowledge required to access degree programmes.
In the first year of the four-year degree, students will focus specifically on communication (oral and written), critical thinking, research, independent study, and digital and employability skills.
On successful completion of the foundation year, students will automatically progress on to the first year of their chosen undergraduate programme.
Students who opt to complete only the first year of the four-year degree at St Mary’s will be provided with a transcript which will detail the modules taken and the grades achieved. This transcript can be used to access undergraduate degrees in future at St Mary’s, another university or support applications for employment.
The Foundation Year so far has been a very positive experience for me. With a personal tutor and weekly group tutorials I feel excellently supported, especially with the group WhatsApp and tutors who reply promptly.I am astonished by the commitment and helpful attitude from their side.
The teaching is delivered with enthusiasm and very high technical ability. Learning about assignment writing, research and other skills required for university is also delivered on this course and it's not just helpful, but also gives confidence in one’s own ability.
The cohort is small and the contact much more personal, which I see as an advantage as it helps with settling in nicely, especially when you are a mature student and sometimes feel out of place.
Overall, I would say it is a caring, friendly and respectful community with highly committed lecturers and an interesting and helpful course!
