Dr Mark Glaister (School of Sport, Health and Applied Science)
"I've been at St Mary's since 2002 in the School of Sport, Health and Applied Science, starting out as a lecturer and progressing to the position of Reader in Exercise Physiology and Academic Director of Research.
"In my time here I've seen lots of positive changes such as the building of new laboratories and sports facilities, as well as the recruitment of many more staff to support the growth of subjects within my School. I love working here and enjoy the fact that, due to our relatively small size, I have been able to get to know staff throughout the institution.
"The supportive environment has enabled me to pursue my research interests as well as develop my teaching skills. The location of the campus is great, with central London so close, and places like Windsor and Hampton Court within easy reach. All in all, I can't imagine a nicer environment in which to pursue a career in academia."
Arom Garth (Catering Department)
"I've worked at St Mary's for over 13 years in the Catering Department, where my job as a Salad Chef is to prepare salads and stock up the salad bar at lunch and dinner times. I enjoy being able to provide staff, students and visitors with healthy eating options.
"This has led me to become a workplace health champion, and for several years now I have organised badminton sessions for staff, students and the local community on Saturdays. My role has also given me the chance to gain additional qualifications such as the Basic Food Hygiene certificate and Level 2 Award in Food Safety.
"St Mary's has a great community atmosphere and being in contact with staff and students each day in such a pleasant working environment makes me feel part of a much bigger family."
