These are third party, off-the-shelf applications and, therefore, are not within St Mary's domain to fix. We have referred the issues found to the suppliers. If/when fixes are available from those suppliers we will look to implement them.

If the supplier is unwilling or unable to make their products digitally accessible, this will be taken into account as digital accessibility is now a part of our procurement strategy.

Disproportionate burden

At this time, we have made no claims of disproportionate burden

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Portable Document Format (PDF) and other documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. By September 2020, we plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we do not plan to fix historical council meeting minute documents published before 23rd September 2018.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Pre-existing video content

The regulations do not require that we make pre-existing video content accessible that was created before the 23rd September 2020. We have video content on the website that is not as accessible as it could be. We will be working to make these instructions more accessible to all.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We have been auditing these applications in 2020 to identify any non-accessible content.

This audit will be completed by the end of August 2020 and corrections will be implemented by 23rd September 2020 where possible.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on Wednesday 16th September 2020. It was last reviewed on Wednesday 16th September 2020.

The auditing was carried out by ourselves. The audit approach we have adopted is to audit a representative sample of the web pages and documents on this site as most pages share common functionality and templates. These audits consisted of automated audits using MS Accessibility Insights 'Fast Pass' and manual checks for:

  • Using a keyboard (non-mouse)
  • Using a screen reader
  • Logic, clarity and meaningfulness
  • Using a mobile or tablet device
  • Ensuring content is usable when zoomed in or magnified
  • Pop-ups and interactive or flashing content
