Housekeeping in Accommodation

The St Marys housekeeping team are committed to maintaining the standard of cleanliness and hygiene that is evident throughout the campus.

The cleaning team do their best to ensure your accommodation and related facilities remain as clean as possible. However, there is an inconsistency in standards across accommodation which is affected by the cleaner’s ability to access and clean individual rooms.

To address this inconsistency, we will need to ensure every ensuite room is cleaned fortnightly to check and maintain standards.

What we need you to do

  • We need to you keep the general cleaning of your room up to a minimum standard so that it doesn’t become a hazard to yourself or others.
  • We need you to allow regular access to rooms, at the arranged time, to be able to undertake ‘top up’ cleaning of your ensuite.
  • We need you to have decluttered your room at time of cleaning access to ensure the cleaning can be carried out without hazard to the cleaning staff.
  • We would be grateful if you would place your bin outside your door when it needs emptying.
  • We would be grateful if you would do your washing up and clear your things from kitchen surfaces to allow the cleaners to do their job.

What you can expect from the University

  • We will clean your communal spaces on a daily basis and empty the bin from your room.
  • We will give you notice of when we are due to clean your ensuite.
  • We will access the room at a reasonable hour to ensure your sleep is not disturbed.
  • We will clean your ensuite and offer advice on the cleaning of your room.

How will we do this?

We are introducing a Traffic light system to better communicate with you, and to work with you to improve standard across university accommodation.

When the cleaners visit your room to clean your room, they may leave one of the following cards:

The cleaning team appreciate the help you provide which allows us to keep accommodation clean for your benefit and the benefit of your fellow students. If you struggle to clean or need guidance please feel free to speak to your local cleaner and they will be very happy to support you.

If you would like any more information please contact the Housekeeping Department at housekeeping@stmarys.ac.uk. Alternatively, please contact the Student Services team at studentservices@stmarys.ac.uk who will be happy to help.
