Emergency Procedures

In the event of an emergency ring 4060 (internal line) or 020 8240 4060 and state the emergency. This line is capable of handling a number of calls simultaneously and will be answered immediately. Please do not use this line to report matters of a non urgent nature; these should be reported by calling 4335.

Please do not call 999 directly to report emergencies on the St Mary's campus. Please call ext 4060 and the Security Team will contact the Emergency Services for you. This is to ensure the Emergency Services can be met on arrival and guided to the incident quickly.  

Alarms

Panic alarms

These are fitted in areas considered to be vulnerable; by activating the alarm you will receive an immediate security response. Users should only use the panic alarm in the case of an emergency. 

Fire alarms

Security will monitor the University's fire alarm systems and will respond to assist in:

  • Evacuation
  • First aid
  • Intelligence gathering
  • Fire Brigade access
  • Business continuity
  • Welfare and safety of evacuees
  • Security of the scene
  • Provision of reports

Intruder alarms

Security will undertake security surveys and provide advice on the installation of intruder alarm systems to the University's specification

Security will monitor the University’s alarm system and respond immediately to alarm activations to;

  • Protect life
  • Prevent crime
  • Protect property
  • Prevent loss or damage

Disabled refugees/lift alarms

Security will respond to all such alarms.

First Aid requests

Security Services will attend and assist for all First Aid requests. Please call extension 4060 (020 8240 4060) to request assistance.  

Building management systems (BMS)

Security will monitor the University 's BMS systems and respond to each in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.
